STATESVILLE, N.C. – The technology from the former Superstar Racing Experience has found a new home.
GMS Race Cars announced Thursday that it has acquired key SRX assets from Ray Evernham Enterprises, which includes the full fleet of purpose-built cars, as well as associated equipment.
The GMS Fabrication organization, which formerly operated as GMS Racing in the NASCAR world, now has possession of the 16-car fleet of assembled SRX race cars, which were built and designed by both NASCAR Hall of Fame crew chief Evernham and Fury Race Cars.
In addition to the package, the purchase comes with an array of pit equipment, race day infrastructure, and select spare parts. The acquisition doesn’t include the SRX brand, broadcasting, and trademark rights with the now-defunct racing series.
GMS Race Cars hopes to use the SRX technology and race cars to build on its goal of providing cutting-edge chassis platforms, customer racing experiences, and engineering support on a national scale.
“These race cars were built to an incredibly high standard by Ray, with durability, drivability, and performance in mind,” said GMS Race Cars president Joey Cohen. “Our team sees a huge opportunity to take these vehicles into a new era – repurposing them for premium track-day experiences, turnkey customer programs, and specialty racing events across the country. The possibilities are endless.”
Evernham and three-time NASCAR Cup Series champion Tony Stewart both co-owned the series that operated from 2021-‘23, which featured an IROC style of racing, predominantly on short tracks and dirt tracks across the United States that brought together drivers from multiple racing disciplines.
The series originally aired on CBS before transitioning to ESPN until the closure of the tour at the beginning of 2024.
“It’s incredibly gratifying to see these cars live on in a new format,” Evernham said. “We built them to be durable, racy, and fun – whether in the hands of champions or first-timers. GMS Race Cars is the perfect group to carry that torch forward and put smiles on a whole new generation of drivers.”
It is currently uncertain what the future of the series will be or how GMS will leverage the fleet of cars and equipment to its future operations.
